Guru Nanak Jayanti 2020 or Guru Parab or Prakash Utsav

 India is a place of Saints and Prophets. Guru Nanak, the founder of the religion of Sikhism was born on 15th April, 1469 at Rai Bhoi Ki Talvandi near Lahore (presently in Pakistan), now the place is known as the Nankana Sahib.

                                                  Guru Nanak, the first of the ten Sikh Gurus, was the son of Kalyan Chand Das Bedi and Mata Tripta. He was married to Sulakkhani. His birthday is celebrated on the first full moon night of Kartika month and is known as Guru Nanak Jayanti or Guru Parab or Prakash Utsav.

                                        The Guru Nanak Jayanti will be celebrated on Monday, November 30, 2020 (551st Birth Anniversary) this year.

 It is said that, one day he went to take a bath at holy Kali bai River and went into the forest. The teachings say that he heard the God and received instructions to spread the message of love and since then, he established Sikh religion.

                                            The teachings of Guru Nanak is written in 'Guru Granth Sahib', holy book of Sikhs. It is written in "Guru mukhi" (old Punjabi word, means "from the mouth of Guru") language. 

                                         Shri Har mandir Sahib or Sri Darbar Sahib or Golden Temple (named due to golden coating) is a prominent Sikh Gurudwara (Gurudwara is a place, where Guru Granth Sahib is placed on a takhat (an elevated throne) in a prominent central position) located in the city of Amritsar, Punjab, was built in 1604 by Guru Arjun

                                Due to excavation of the holy pool of nectar (Amrit sarovar), a raised place appeared in front of Harmandir Sahib. The highest temporal seat founded by sixth Sikh minister Guru Har Gobind Sahib in the year 1609 and named it as "Atal Takhat" (means the throne of Almighty). Atal Takhat is the most supreme of all Takhats.

             After institution of langar (community kitchen, where food is served to everyone without discrimination) and appointing Guru Angad as his successor, Guru Nanak passed away at the age of 70 in Kartarpur on 22nd Sep, 1539. The largest free kitchen in the world is the langar at the Golden Temple at Amritsar.

There are three main teachings in Guru Granth Sahib.

Sharing and helping poor people, earning money without cheating anyone and to repeat the name of God to control one's weakness(like anger, greed, pride, the ego). He believed that there is only one God and he is inside everyone.
