Dhanteras 2020

Dhanteras or Dhanatrayodashi is celebrated on the thirteenth lunar day of Krishna Paksha (dark fortnight) in the Hindu calendar month of Kartik. The word Dhan means wealth and Teras means thirteenth. 

Dhanteras 2020 will be celebrated on November 13, this year. The auspicious time for Dhanteras puja would be between 5.28 pm and 5.59 pm.

Dhanteras is celebrated by worshipping Lord Dhanvantari (God of Ayurveda), Goddess Lakshmi, Lord Kuber (God of Wealth), Lord Yama (God of Death) and buying something new mainly gold, silver and utensils.

                              According to Hindu Mythology, Lord Dhanvantari emerged during Samudra Manthan, holding an urn (pitcher) full of nectar in one hand and the sacred text book about Ayurveda in the other hand, So it is tradition to buy utensils on the day of Dhanteras.

                                                            Indian Government announced that Dhanteras day as 'National Ayurveda Day' and was first observed on October 28, 2016.

Lakshmi puja on Dhanteras is performed during Pradosh Kaal. This year Pradosh Kaal begins at 5.28 pm and ends at 8.07 pm on November 13, 2020 after sunset.
