DIWALI 2020

Choti Diwali (Narak Chaturdashi) is the second day of the five day long Deepavali festival.

Narak Chaturdashi or Narak Chaudas marks the triumph of Lord Krishna's consort (wife), Satayabhama (incarnation of Narkasur's mother , Bhudevi) over a demon named Narakasur. Therefore people celebrate Narak Chaturdashi (death anniversary of Narakasur) on fourteenth tithi of Kartik Krishna Paksha.

It is believed that Lord Krishna took oil bath after the death of Narakasur on this day. The (Roop Chaudas) day is thus considered important to take ritualistic oil bath before the sunrise.

Narak Chaudas and Deepavali are two different festivals observed on the same day this year, depending on the start and end timings of Tithis.

Chaturdashi Tithi begins - 05.59 PM on Nov 13, 2020

Chaturdashi Tithi ends - 02.17 PM on Nov 14, 2020

DIWALI Pooja

According to Hindu Calendar, Diwali falls on the 15th day in the month of Kartik. The word Diwali comes from Sanskrit word Deepavali, which means 'rows of lighted lamps'.

This tradition celebrate the victory of Ram (King of Ayodhya) over the demon Ravana (King of Lanka). Diwali is the day when Ram returned to Ayodhya after a period of 14 years of exile, so people lit up earthen lamps throughout the whole Kingdom (Ayodhya) to welcome him.

Diwali Puja is also known as Deepavali Puja and Lakshmi Ganesh Puja.

Laxmi Puja Muhurat (Pradosh Kaal) - 06:01 PM to 08:01 PM on November 14, 2020.
