Gita Jayanti 2020

Gita Jayanti is the symbolic birth of Shrimad Bhagavad Gita. The birthday of Shrimad Bhagavad Gita or Gita Jayanti is celebrated on Shukla Ekadashi of the Hindu Margshirsha Month, which is observed on December 25, 2020 on this year. International Gita Mahotsav 2020 held in Kurukshetra from 17th to 25th December.

The word Gita means song and Bhagavad means God, often the Bhagavad Gita is called as Song of God.

Krishna gave the holy sermon of the Bhagavad Gita to the Pandava prince Arjuna at Jyotisar, only 5 kms from the town of Kurukshetra, before the battle of Mahabharat.

It took about 45 minutes for Lord Krishna to speak all the 700 verses (shloka) and 18 chapters of the Bhagavad Gita, the Hindu scripture in Sanskrit which is part of the Hindu epic Mahabharat.

Only few contemporaries listened to Bhagavad Gita Live, Arjuna (from Krishna), Sanjaya (Through Mystic Vision), Dhritarashtra (Through Sanjaya), and Divine Veda Vyasa, though the son of Ghatotkach, Barabarik (now known as Khatushyamji or Shyambaba) watched it from a hilltop.

It is composed by Vyasa Dvaipayana, also known as Sage Vyasa, the author of the Mahabharat, the foremost prophet of human race. In fact, Veda Vyasa gives us the Bhagavad Gita as live commentary through Sanjaya only, who had divine vision to hear directly from Lord Krishna. According to some, Bhagavad Gita is written by Lord Ganesh which was told to him by Sage Vyasa.

The Bhagavad Gita teaches us various important principles that relate to work, life, religion, philosophy and spirituality through Gita Saar. Considered to be a doctrine of universal truth, Bhagavad Gita has long been influencing people not only in India but also around the World.
