The whole world celebrates May 1 as an International Labour Day although the people of Maharashtra and Gujarat celebrate today big event as Maharashtra Day and Gujarat Day, respectively.

Labour Day 2021

May 1 is known as International Worker's day and as Labour Day in different parts of the World. Today we will know about some things that workers use in their working life, but they never thought about the importance of their scale in their life, such as salary word, salary system, eight working hours, weekend and EPF which made their running life so systematic and trouble free.

Peter J. McGuire, a carpenter and labour union leader, was the person who proposed the idea of Labour day to New York's Central Labour union early in 1882. On May 1, 1886, the Labour class came together and rebelled against the unjust system and asked for paid leaves, good wages, and proper breaks. In India the Labour day celebrated in Madras (now Chennai) by the Labour Kisan Party of Hindustan on May 1, 1923 and Red Flag, symbol of Labour day, utilized in India for the primary time. Labour day is additionally referred to as Kamgar Din or Antarrashtriya Shramik Divas

In Roman times, and throughout the centre ages, Salt was a valuable commodity also mentioned as 'White Gold'. The modern 9 to 5 eight-hour workday was invented by American Labour unions in the 1800s and it went mainstream by Henry Ford in the 1920s. The US began to recognize eight-hour work timings after years of protests and uprisings. The weekend concept first arose in the Britain in the early 19th century. Initially, The Amalgamated Clothing Workers of America union demanded a five-day work week in 1929. Some countries have adopted a one-day weekend, however most countries have adopted a two day weekend on the basis of predicted social and economic benefits.

The EPF and MP Act (Employees Provident Fund and Miscellaneous Provisions Act) 1952, was enacted by the Parliament of India and came into force with effect from March 4, 1952.     

                                          

Maharashtra Day 2021

At the time of India's Independence, Bombay developed as an enormous Indian state with other suburbs being added hereto within the subsequent years.On today May 1, in 1960 two states Maharashtra and Gujarat attained statehood after division of Bombay (now Mumbai) state. In 1956, the Sanyukt Maharashtra Andolan began demanding a separate state. This proclaim continued till 1960, the Bombay Reorganization Act was gone by India's Parliament and legislation came into effect on May 1, 1960. By splitting the bilingual Bombay state, which had existed since 1956 with majority Marathi speaking Maharashtra and Gujarati speaking Gujarat, two states Maharashtra and Gujarat were formed on May 1, 1960.

                                                                

Mumbai


Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was the primary King of Maharashtra. Marathi language is an Indo-Aryan language spoken mainly by around 83 million Maratha people of Maharashtra, India. Marathi is an official language and co-official language within the Maharashtra and Goa states of Western India, respectively and is one among the 22 scheduled languages of India. Maharashtra is one among the foremost industrialized state of India. Maharashtra became the medium of cultural exchange between southern to northern India. The Godavari and Krishna are the major rivers in the state Maharashtra. Maharashtra is India's most industrialized state contributing 46% of the GDP (Gross Domestic Product). 


 Shiv Sena officially changed city's name as Mumbai when it came into power in 1995, although Bombay remained in common usage. Shiv Sena renamed it from Bombay to Mumbai to pay tribute to the Goddess Mumbadevi and to reflect its Maratha heritage.       

                                                 

Gujarat Day 2021

After division of Bombay (now Mumbai) state, the state of Gujarat was carved out on May 1, 1960 and this day is celebrated as Gujarat Day.

During Mahabharat period, the Gujarat was known as 'Anart Pradesh' (land in west), and later on it was called as land of Gurjar. Gujarat word derived from the word 'Gurjar Pradesh'. Ahmad Shah, the first independent sultan of Gujarat founded Ahmedabad (1411). Gujarat was ruled by Mughals by the end of the 16th century. Marathas inundated the state after mid-18th century. Gujarat is often called as "Jewel of Western India" on the global map since ancient times. Gujarat is the birth place of Mahatma Gandhi and 'Iron Man of India' Sardar Vallabhai Patel and our present Prime Minister Narendra Modi also.
